Yellville-Summit among 1st round winners in state volleyball tournaments

Five area high school volleyball teams began postseason play on Tuesday.

Two area schools sent their teams to Quitman for the opening round of the Class 2A State Tournament.
Yellville-Summit was able to advance to the quarterfinals with a four-set victory. The Lady Panthers defeated Taylor with scores of 25-17, 25-23, 18-25 and 25-14.
Marshall watched its season come to an end. The Lady Bobcats fell in straight sets as England posted scores of 25-22, 25-20 and 25-19.

Valley Springs began hosting the Class 3A State Tournament.
Salem was one and done after losing in straight sets on the campus of North Arkansas College in Harrison. Baptist Prep defeated the Lady Greyhounds 25-12, 25-8 and 25-6.
Valley Springs needed all five sets, but they were able to get the win on their home floor. The host Lady Tigers beat Episcopal Collegiate with scores of 25-20, 13-25, 21-25, 26-24 and 16-14.

Harrison went to Searcy and won its opener in the Class 5A State Tournament in straight sets. The Lady Goblins topped Lake Hamilton 25-9, 25-12 and 25-9.
