Monday basketball results include MH freshman boys losing opener in NWA Classic

The Mountain Home freshman boys’ basketball team started the Northwest Arkansas Classic on a tough note Monday in Bentonville following a 37-33 loss to Fayetteville. Gus Wilber led the Junior Bombers with 10 points. Mountain Home falls to 1-2 on the season.

Salem’s boys lost their opener in the Wade’s Heating and Cooling Junior High Tournament at Batesville. The Junior Greyhounds fell to the host Junior Pioneers 42-33.

Izard County’s boys won their semifinal game of the Quitman Athletics Junior High Invitational Tournament. The Junior Cougars defeated Melbourne 37-32. Izard County improves to 3-2, and they’ll compete for the title Wednesday evening.

The quarterfinals of the Arvest Bank Tournament were held Monday at Flippin. In girls’ action, Cotter lost to Mountain View 46-41, Norfork defeated Flippin 61-32, Salem topped Kingston 47-37, and Bergman beat Jasper 78-48. On the boys’ side, Flippin edged out Omaha 52-51, Mountain View was a 63-42 winner over Alpena, and Ozark Mountain fell to Jasper 57-42.

Harrison lost its first game in the Clarksville Senior High Boys’ Basketball Classic. The Goblins fell to Farmington 74-42.

Elsewhere, Valley Springs was able to sweep its high school games at Shirley. The Tigers won the boys’ game over the Blue Devils 79-63. Valley Springs also took the girls’ contest over Shirley 68-53.
