Ryan Mallett will be honored posthumously next year by the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame. The former Arkansas Razorback quarterback and Mountain Home assistant football coach will be among the newest inductees for the class of 2024.

Mallett played for Arkansas in 2009 and 2010 and passed for almost 7,500 yards and 62 touchdowns. He led the Razorbacks to a Sugar Bowl appearance in the 2010 season. He later played seven seasons in the NFL for the New England Patriots, Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens.

Mallett joined Steve Ary’s staff at Mountain Home as an assistant coach in 2020 and was promoted to offensive coordinator the next year. He helped Mountain Home to a record of 11-14 and two trips to the playoffs before being hired as the head coach at White Hall in 2022.

Mallett tragically drowned on June 27. He was in Destin, Fla., when he went under water in the Gulf of Mexico. Lifeguards pulled Mallett from the water, and he was later pronounced dead in the Destin Emergency Room.

Two other former Razorback football players will join Mallett in the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame. Peyton Hillis and Jason Peters also played in the NFL.

Other inductees include former Harding University basketball player Butch Gardner, former basketball coaches Al Flanigan and Carla Crowder, golfers Glen Day and Ed Harris, para-athlete Jeff Glasbrenner and Eric Jackson for his contributions to thoroughbred racing. The Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame has yet to announce a date for its induction banquet.
