A Stone County woman has been arrested after her two-year-old grandson tested positive for methamphetamine after she accidentally gave him “bong” water. Fifty-four-year-old Tonya Nesbit Robey of Mountain View is facing one felony charge in the case.
According to the probable cause affidavit, the toddler was taken to the Stone County Medical Center where he was intubated because of breathing problems and then airlifted to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock. He was a patient at Children’s for one day, and while there, he tested positive for both methamphetamine and ecstasy.
The boy had been in the care of his great grandmother and his grandmother when he became ill. After learning her grandson had tested positive for meth, Robey disappeared.
Investigators received a tip prior to the incident Robey had been bragging about a new smoking device she had purchased that allowed her to use a normal water bottle as a bong. After the incident happened, Robey allegedly told friends she was afraid she had accidentally given her grandson “bong” water.
Investigators talked to a forensic chemist at the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory who said it is possible for methamphetamine residue to exist in bong water.
Robey is facing a felony count of endangering the welfare of a minor in the first degree. She is free on $5,000 bond.
