Friday basketball results include Norfork girls winning in Northark tourney semifinals

The North Arkansas College Invitational Tournament held its semifinals Friday at the Pioneer Pavilion in Harrison. On the girls’ side, Norfork defeated Valley Springs, and Mountain View topped Jasper 72-49. In the boys’ games, Marshall beat Valley Springs 95-27, and Mountain View got past Jasper 53-50.

Viola’s girls finished fourth in the Lady Blackhawk Holiday Invitational at Pea Ridge. The Lady Longhorns were edged out by Mena 44-41.

The Bakersfield boys lost their final game in the Twelve Courts of Christmas at Kansas City. The Lions fell to Palmyra 63-39.

Two area boys’ teams wrapped up play in the Cabool Holiday Tournament.
The fifth place game was a battle between Bulldogs as Gainesville topped the host school 51-47. Andrew Hambelton was Gainesville’s leading scorer with 15 points, and Easton McGee chipped in 13.
Dora ended up losing the consolation title game 70-59 to Salem, Mo. Ashton Roberts and Wilson Masters led the Falcons with 13 points each, and Brayden York scored 11.

Salem’s boys lost their final game in the Big River Steel Lion Holiday Classic at Manila. The Greyhounds fell to East Poinsett County 77-58.

Three area boys’ teams concluded play in the Maverick Division of the Bad Boy Mowers Ronnie Brogdon Invitational at Highland.
Izard County was able to beat Melbourne 59-51 in the third place game. Gabe Spray led the Cougars with 30 points, and Jude Everett had 12. Izard County improves to 10-6 on the season.
Mammoth Spring took seventh place as they pounded Charleston 69-45. The Bears were led by Garet O’Dell with 22 points, Blake Rogers provided 18, and Braxton Sneed finished with 13.

Izard County’s girls will play for the Division 2 championship of the NEA Tournament after eliminating Marked Tree 60-50 at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. Olivia Spray was the Lady Cougars’ top scorer with 21 points, Makensie Yancey finished with 15, Quinn Johnson ended up with 14, and Tinley Bailey added 10.

The Melbourne girls were sent to the third place game of the Goldfish Classic at Lonoke. The Lady Bearkatz fell to Quitman 57-46.

Friday was the second day of the Lendel Thomas Classic at Harrison. In the girls’ games, Marshall destroyed Earle 80-45, and the host Lady Goblins topped Highland 43-30. Harrison’s boys beat Earle 82-72.

The CS Bank Holiday Hoops Tournament ended at Berryville with Bergman splitting the championship games. The Panthers took the boys’ title of the host Bobcats 61-32. Bergman’s girls fell to Clinton 57-55.
