
The Mountain Home High School basketball teams had mixed results on Saturday as they played a pair of makeup games at Van Buren.
The Lady Bombers began by topping the Lady Pointers 55-39. After a close first quarter, Mountain Home outscored Van Buren 22-12 in the second period to go into the locker room up a dozen. The remainder of the game was played fairly even as the Lady Bombers went on to win by 16.
Jayla Yonkers led Mountain Home with 21 points, and Laykin Moore added 18. For the Lady Pointers, Cam Schmidt scored 13 points.
The Lady Bombers improve to 14-5 on the season and 3-0 in the 5A-West. Van Buren falls to 13-6 and 1-2.
Mountain Home did not fare as well in the boys’ contest as they lost to the Pointers 77-61. Van Buren hardly missed from the field, especially in the first quarter as they ended it with a 23-11 lead. The Bombers were trailing by nine at the break, but the Pointers led by double digits for much of the game as they went on to post the 16-point victory.
Mountain Home was led by Braiden Dewey with 13 points. For Van Buren, Glavine McDonald had 27 points, Trenton Cooley provided 13, Jaxon Cazzell finished with 12 points, Drew Brasuell ended up with 11, and A.G. Denton chipped in 10 points.
The Bombers drop to 14-5 overall and 2-1 in the league. The Pointers are now 14-5 and 3-0.
Both Mountain Home teams are currently scheduled to go back on the road Tuesday with a trip to Russellville.
