Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin has advised a former state senator to turn down the Arkansas Board of Corrections secretary post.

On Tuesday, the board voted to hire Eddie Joe Williams as interim secretary after firing former corrections secretary Joe Profiri. KARK News reports that Griffin’s letter stated the governor is the only person who can appoint the role. He gave Williams a Friday afternoon deadline to decide whether to accept the position.

Griffin said he had not received notice from Williams by the deadline and his office is considering options.
