
Douglas County Sheriff’s Office’s K9 York recently received a donation of body armor.
According to a post on the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, the department received a donation from a non-profit organization, Vested Interest in K9’s Inc., bullet and stab proof armor for K9 York. The vest was sponsored by Vested Interest in K9’s Inc and is embroidered with the sentiment “Honoring those who served and sacrificed.”
Vested Interest in K9s has provided over 5,435 vests to K9s in all 50 states at a value of $6.9 million with the help of both private and corporate donations.
The program is open to U.S. dogs who are at least 20 months old and currently serving in law enforcement or related agencies. K9s with expired vests are also eligible.
Vested Interest in K9s accepts tax-deductible donations in any amount. A single donation of $985 will sponsor one vest. Each vest has a value of $1,800 and comes with a 5-year warranty.
