ASUMH softball team loses home-opening doubleheader to Missouri State-West Plains

The ASU-Mountain Home softball team’s home opener ended on a rough note. The Trailblazers were swept in a doubleheader by Missouri State-West Plains at Keller Park.

ASU-Mountain Home lost the first game in five innings as the Grizzlies posted the 12-2 win. Sydney Bryeans led the Blazers by going 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and an RBI, Courtney Vess was 1-for-2 with an RBI single, and Bre Johnson went 1-for-2 with a double off the top of the center field fence. ASU-Mountain Home’s defense struggled early on with five errors in the first two innings.

The late game was tied going into the final inning, but Missouri State-West Plains exploded for an 11-run performance for a 13-2 victory. The Blazers’ pitching gave up two home runs in the seventh inning, including a grand slam. Vess was 1-for-2, and Johnson and Ashley Earley both went 1-for-3.

ASU-Mountain Home falls to 0-4 on the season, and they’ll travel to Walnut Ridge on Feb. 17 to face Williams Baptist’s junior varsity squad.
