ASUMH baseball team sweeps doubleheader over Labette

The ASU-Mountain Home baseball team had a successful day on Friday as they swept Labette in a pair of seven-inning games.

The Trailblazers defeated the Cardinals 5-3. Jackson Downs hit a pair of solo home runs, Sammy Lemond and Alex Harrell both hit solo shots, and ASU-Mountain Home’s last run came when Christopher Tillery grounded into a double play in the sixth. Thomas Jordan picked up the win as he pitched 5 1/3 innings, struck out five batters and gave up three hits, one earned run and three walks. John White took the mound for the final 1 2/3 frames of no-hit ball with a strikeout and a walk.

The Blazers were able to take the late game over Labette 7-5. Down was 3-for-3 in the game with another solo home run and a pair of doubles. Harrell hit a two-run shot to left field in the third followed by an RBI single by Tristan Wheelus. ASU-Mountain Home took the lead for good in the fifth frame on home runs by Down and Kolby Webb. Mason Lemons was the winning pitcher with 1 1/3 relief innings, one strikeout, two hits and no walks. Deuce Yaksick started the game with three innings, three strikeouts, four hits, two walks and three runs. Ckyler Tengler threw one inning of no-run, no-hit ball with two strikeouts and a walk.

ASU-Mountain Home will be back at Cooper Park Feb. 17 and 18. The Blazers will have doubleheaders against Moberly Area both days.
