Sweetheart Royalty night ended on Friday with the Mountain Home High School basketball teams splitting their games with Van Buren.

A three-pointer by Parker Huskey near the end of the game pushed the Lady Bombers past the Lady Pointers 50-49. This game was back-and-forth throughout the night with 10 lead changes and six ties. With less than a minute left, Van Buren went up 49-46 on a pair of free throws by Jaci Odom. Anna McCarn went to the charity stripe for Mountain Home with 43 seconds left and hit one of two. The Lady Pointers’ next possession ended with a missed layup by Havisha Johnson, and the Lady Bombers got the rebound. On the other end of the floor, Laykin Moore drove into the lane and threw the ball on the right wing to Huskey, who then hit her three with 17 seconds left. On Van Buren’s last possession, Odom drove in for a runner and missed, and Mountain Home secured the rebound and ran out the clock.

Jayla Yonkers led the Lady Bombers with 12 points, and Moore added 11. Cam Schmidt scored 15 points for the Lady Pointers, and Johnson chipped in 15.

Mountain Home remains in a tie for first place in the 5A-West at 20-6 on the season and 9-1 in the league. Van Buren falls to 16-9 and 4-6.

The Bombers did not fare as well in the boys’ contest as they lost to the Pointers 58-46. Van Buren was able to sink nearly every shot they threw up in the first half, and they went into the locker room up 41-24. The Pointers’ shooting was a little colder in the second half, and Mountain Home was able to cut the margin back to nine. The Bombers would get no closer as Van Buren went on to win by a dozen.
