ASUMH baseball team gets 2nd doubleheader sweep over Moberly Area

The ASU-Mountain Home baseball team was able to secure another doubleheader sweep over Moberly Area on Sunday.

The Trailblazers breezed past the Greyhounds 12-5 in the opener. ASU-Mountain Home started off with a four-run first inning from an RBI double by Alex Harrell, an RBI single by Kolby Webb and a two-run single by Tristan Wheelus. The Blazers extended their lead to 7-0 in the second inning off an RBI single by Harrell and a two-run home run by Jackson Down.

Thomas Jordan was credited with the win as he pitched 5 1/3 innings, struck out six batters and gave up three hits, four walks and one earned run. Coleton Payton came on in relief and pitched 1 1/3 shutout innings with one strikeout, three hits and no walks.

Harrell led ASU-Mountain Home by going 4-for-4, Webb was 3-for-4 with five RBIs, and Jason Young went 2-for-5. The Blazers ended up with 16 base hits in the game.

ASU-Mountain Home wrapped up the weekend by getting past Moberly Area 9-6 in the late game. The Greyhounds got on the board in the second inning on bases-clearing double by Clayton Ello. They added to their lead in the next frame after Hunter Shoulta hit an RBI single, and another run came across the plate when Joey Marcinkiewicz hit into a double play. The Blazers put up a pair of runs in the fifth when Harrell hit a home run over the center field fence. They went up for good in the sixth off an RBI single by Gabriel Ellison and a three-run homer by Harrell.

Ckyler Tengler was the winning pitcher with two relief innings, five strikeouts, no hits, no walks and no runs. Deuce Yaksick was ASU-Mountain Home’s starting pitcher as he went three innings, struck out three batters and gave up seven hits, one walk and five earned runs. Mason Lemons also pitched two shutout innings with two strikeouts, one hit and three walks.

The Blazers finished with nine base hits in the game. Ellison, Harrell and Logen Walker each provided two hits.

ASU-Mountain Home improves to 8-1 on the season. The Blazers will be in Miami for two days of doubleheaders with Northeastern Oklahoma A&M starting Friday.
