Thursday’s basketball results include multiple state tournament wins among area teams

Three area teams were able to win their openers in the Class 2A State Tournament at Mansfield. On the girls’ side, Izard County breezed past Earle 77-55, and Marshall defeated Buffalo Island Central 84-71. Marshall’s boys squeaked by Riverside 58-56.

The Mammoth Spring girls dominated their quarterfinal game in the Class 1A State Tournament as they routed Taylor 62-24 at North Arkansas College in Harrison. The Lady Bears were led by Brynn Washam with 19 points, Tay Davis had 18, and Adrianna Corbett chipped in 10. Mammoth Spring’s semifinal game will be Saturday against the winner of Friday’s game between Concord and Wonderview.

Valley Springs’ girls watched their season come to an end in the first round of the Class 3A State Tournament at Mansfield. The Lady Tigers were edged out by Lamar 45-42.

In Missouri, two area boys’ teams played their first games in the Class 5, District 6 Tournament at Marshfield.
West Plains was one and done with a 78-64 loss at the hands of Willard. The Zizzers’ season ends with a mark of 10-16.
Branson was also eliminated from the tournament as they fell to Springfield Hillcrest 73-62. The Pirates’ final record is 12-15.

The Ava boys took part in the semifinals of the Class 4, District 11 Tournament at Logan-Rogersville High School and lost to the host Wildcats 62-25. The Bears’ year ends at 6-22.
