
The final day of state championship week for high school basketball in Arkansas began with two area girls’ teams meeting in downtown Hot Springs for the third consecutive year.
In what could be labeled the rubber game, Norfork’s girls fell to Mammoth Spring 57-47 in the Class 1A final. Keely Blanchard led the Lady Panthers with 16 points, and Cate Shaddy added 15. For the Lady Bears, Brynn Washam was named the tournament’s most valuable player as she scored 22 points, Tay Davis had 17, and Adrianna Corbett chipped in 12. Norfork’s final record is 34-2, and Mammoth Spring finishes the season at 40-5.
The Class 1A boys’ game followed, and it ended with Marked Tree defeating Nevada 66-43. The Indians were led by tournament MVP Ladarrius Brown with 20 points, and Kenyon Carter and Jonah Walker each provided 10. Brycten Harris and Kavion Coleman finished with 14 points each for the Blue Jays. Marked Tree concludes its season at 35-3, and Nevada drops to 30-8.
