Authorities are searching for an inmate who escaped from the Izard County Detention Center Saturday morning. According to the sheriff’s office, 47-year-old Edward Allen Eastwood of Oxford walked away from his work detail around 5:20.

Eastwood has been in jail since October on felony charges of aggravated assault, fleeing, theft of property, breaking or entering, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and possession of a Schedule I controlled substance along with misdemeanor charges of fleeing on foot and possession of drug paraphernalia. The original arrest came after he allegedly led deputies on a high speed chase, but then fled the vehicle due to a flat tire and proceeded to run headfirst into a tree, ending the pursuit. He had been wanted for a reported theft earlier in the day.

Eastwood is described as a 6-foot white male weighing 195 pounds with hazel eyes and blonde hair. He was last seen wearing an orange shirt and pants.

Anyone with information on Eastwood’s whereabouts should call 911 immediately and avoid attempting to apprehend him.
