
The ASU-Mountain Home baseball team came away with another dominating performance on Thursday. The Trailblazers went to West Memphis and destroyed ASU Mid-South by a final of 16-1.
ASU-Mountain Home struck early with a three-run home run by Tristan Wheelus in the top of the first inning. The Blazers exploded for five more runs in the third when Kolby Webb drove in a run on a lineout, Jason Young belted a three-run homer over the left field fence, and Gabriel Ellison added a solo shot to center field. Two additional runs were scored in the fourth on an inside-the-park home run by Roger Alexzander. ASU-Mountain Home put up four additional runs in the fifth when Logen Walker hit a home run, Webb was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and another run was scored on a passed ball.
Deuce Yaksick picked up the win as he pitched 5 1/3 innings, recorded 11 strikeouts and gave up nine hits, no walks and a run. Trenton Smith pitched one relief inning with no strikeouts, one hit and no walks.
Walker led the Blazers by going 3-for-5 at the plate. Young and Wheelus each ended up with three RBIs; Christopher Tillery, Ellison, Alexander and Alex Harrell each collected multiple hits; and Sammy Lemond walked twice.
ASU-Mountain Home improves to 21-10 on the season, and they’ll play ASU Mid-South again during the weekend. Saturday’s doubleheader will be held at Lester White Field at Cooper Park.
