Michigan man arrested Wednesday on multiple charges; parole absconder

A Grand Rapids, Mi. man was arrested Wednesday evening after Baxter County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a disturbance call on Dupont Lane in the Whiteville area.According to Sheriff John Montgomery, at approximately 5:50 in the evening, a report was received that a man had kicked in the door of a residence and had then left the scene in a black Ford F150 pickup truck with an out of state license plate. When deputies arrived the victim alleged a man identified as 34-year-old Carl Vannatter had come to her residence. She stated an argument began and Vannatter kicked open the front door while she was on the phone with 9-1-1. The victim stated Vannatter was an absconder and had multiple outstanding warrants.

During the investigation, deputies confirmed Vannatter was a parole absconder and alerted other officers and agencies to be on the lookout for him and his vehicle. At approximately 6:43, an Arkansas State Police Trooper reported he was following a vehicle matching the description given and displayed Montana license plates. The driver of this vehicle pulled into a gas station at the intersection of U. S. Highway 62/412 Bypass and State Highway 178 East and stopped. The Trooper detained Vannatter and was arrested. During the arrest, a handgun was observed in the driver’s seat of the vehicle along with a bag containing what was believed to be methamphetamine. Authorities determined the substance to be approximately 12 grams of meth. Various articles of drug paraphernalia were also found.

Vannatter was booked into the Baxter County Detention Center on felony charges of residential burglary, possession of methamphetamine with the purpose to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of firearms by certain persons along with misdemeanor charges of criminal mischief in the second degree, possession of an open alcohol container in a vehicle, and a parole violation absconder of the Arkansas Division of Community Corrections and a probation violation absoncder of the United States Marshal Service. He is currently being held on a $25,000 bond for the new charges and held without bond for violating parole.

Vannatter is scheduled to appear before the Baxter County Circuit Court on April 15.
