Man drowns after attempting to retrieve dog from water

A Taney County man drowned Thursday after attempting to retrieve his dog from the water at Bull Creek. Seventy-six-year-old Paul Moriuchi was pronounced dead at the scene by the Taney County coroner.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Moriuchi was nearly a mile west of Walnut Shade when his dog went into the water just after noon. He reportedly went into the water to get the dog and was pronounced dead less than 10 minutes later.

The Springfield News-Leader reports Moriuchi was the owner of Branson retailer Party Magic. His death is the first drowning reported by Troop D this year.

The responding trooper was assisted on the scene by the Taney County Sheriff’s Office and the Western Taney County Fire Protection District.
