The Ozark-St. Francis National Forests’ improvements to several recreation areas across were recently completed. One of the projects was in the Sylamore-St. Francis Ranger District in Stone County.

According to the U.S. Forest Service, pavement was repaired on the Blanchard Springs Accessible Trail. The trail is the only accessible pathway to Blanchard Springs, which is the water source that created the underground network of Blanchard Springs Caverns. The project replaced uneven and broken expansion joints, replaced the missing rocks along the border wall and repaired the observation deck at the springs’ outlet.

The total cost of all of the projects in the Ozark-St. Francis National Forests is over $300,000. The funding is from the Great American Outdoors Act, passed in August 2020 for funding deferred maintenance needs of all types of Forest Service infrastructure, from bridges to roads to trails to recreation facilities.
