ASUMH baseball team tops National Park, moves into tie for lead in Region II standings

The ASU-Mountain Home baseball team picked up a big road victory Thursday at Majestic Park in Hot Springs. With the Trailblazers’ 13-6 win over National Park, they now move into a tie with Arkansas-Rich Mountain for first place in the Region II standings of NJCAA Division II.

The Nighthawks got the scoring started with a pair of RBI doubles in the bottom of the first inning. An error by National Park’s defense helped ASU-Mountain Home tie the game at 2-2 in the top of the fourth. In the next inning, the Blazers went on top courtesy of an RBI triple by Alex Harrell and RBI singles by Jackson Down and Kolby Webb. The Nighthawks cut into their deficit in the bottom of the sixth on a solo home run by Wesley Campbell, who was 3-for-5 on the day. Kendall Brookins hit a solo shot for ASU-Mountain Home in the eighth.

Trent Jordan was credited with the victory as he pitched five innings, struck out four batters and gave up five hits, one walk and two runs.

Both teams ended up with 11 hits on the day, and the Blazers also drew nine walks and stole three bases. Harrell led ASU-Mountain Home at the plate by going 3-for-4, Logen Walker was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, Down and Sammy Lemond each collected multiple hits, and Jason Young drew three walks.

The Blazers improve to 27-10 on the season and 17-5 in Region II. ASU-Mountain Home will return to Cooper Park on Saturday as they host National Park for a Sophomore Day doubleheader.
