Thursday results include Cotter baseball team losing, softball team winning in district semifinals

The 2A-1 District Baseball Tournament ended up with a few upsets Thursday at the Equity Bank Sports Complex. Cotter came in as the second-seeded team, but they lost their semifinal game 4-2 to another group of Warriors from Life Way Christian. Yellville-Summit’s season came to an end as they fell to Marshall 11-8. The Bobcats stayed on the field for the semifinals and suffered a 16-6 defeat to top-seeded Greenland.

Melbourne’s baseball team was dominant in its semifinal game in the 3A-2 District Tournament at Walnut Ridge. The Bearkatz routed Newport 11-1.

The Valley Springs baseball team clinched a regional bid after pulling off an upset in the second round of the 3A-1 District Tournament at Flippin. Valley Springs doubled up another group of Tigers from West Fork by a final of 6-3.

The 2A-1 District Softball Tournament got underway at the Equity Bank Sports Complex. Top-seeded Cotter advanced to the championship game after shutting out Yellville-Summit 17-0. Marshall will be the Lady Warriors’ opponent on Friday after getting past Greenland 12-9.

Two area softball teams were victorious in the semifinals of the 3A-2 District Tournament at Walnut Ridge. Top-seeded Salem blanked Tuckerman 2-0, and Melbourne doubled up the host Lady Bobcats 10-5.
