A Mountain Home woman has been arrested for allegedly stealing over $39,000 from a business where she worked. Fifty-three-year-old Susan Marie Smith was arrested this week.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Smith was the manager of the Casey’s store on Highway 62 in Mountain Home and was responsible for making deposits. The Asset Protection Manager for the company determined Smith was not making deposits correctly. The deposit amounts would be for the store earnings several days prior, sometimes up to nine days.

The store was missing deposits for five days which totaled $39,452.

Smith quit her job after being told the District Manager was coming to talk to her about the missing deposits. When the new store manager took over, she was unable to locate the daily sheets or deposit slips for the missing days’ deposits.

Smith is charged with a felony of theft of property. She is free after posting $10,000 bond.
