The Class 2A State Track Meet came to an end Tuesday with one local team winning its fourth consecutive state championship. Yellville-Summit’s girls captured the crown, and KJ Moore led the way as she either won or shared the victory in six different events.

Moore successfully defended her titles from last year in the 400-meter dash and the high jump. She also won the long jump, the 100-meter hurdles and the 200-meter dash.

In addition, Moore joined Bailey Ervin, Hannah Hayward and Abby Methvin in winning the 4×400-meter relay. This is the second straight title in the event for Moore, Ervin and Methvin.

The Lady Panthers were represented by one other individual champion. Riley Hopson was able to win the 800-meter and 1600-meter runs.

Yellville-Summit finished 35 points ahead of the runners-up from Gurdon in the team standings.

The boys’ championship trophy will once again stay on the campus at Quitman. Marshall finished 23rd, Cotter was tied for 26th place, Yellville-Summit ended up 28th, and Izard County finished tied for 30th.

The area’s top individual performances on the boys’ side both came in the shot put. Marshall’s Toby Campbell took second place, and Brooks Cheek of Cotter was fourth.
