A Baxter County man has been arrested for the use of counterfeit money. Thirty-seven-year-old Cody Haynes is facing new charges of forgery, theft and habitual offenses.
According to the probable cause affidavit, deputies were contacted by an Asset Protection Officer with a local business. The officer explained the store had received a counterfeit $20 on April 5 and identified the suspect as Haynes. Authorities were able to identify Haynes by a report from his probation officer which confirmed he had been arrested the day before and had sustained a black eye.
The business was able to provide law enforcement a video footage of Haynes in which he reportedly purchased a hat with the counterfeit bill. The bill was discovered counterfeit by a manager.
The next day, Haynes allegedly returned the hat he purchased to collect a refund. The total amount of restitution owed is $34.27.
Haynes is currently on felony probation and has open felony charges in Marion County. He has several convictions including a 2005 conviction for theft, a 2017 conviction for possession of a controlled substance and a 2021 conviction for possession of drug paraphernalia among other felonies and misdemeanors.
Haynes was booked into the Baxter County Detention Center on felony counts of forgery, theft of property and habitual offenses. He was released on a $5,000 bond.
