
High school baseball and softball dominate the local Thursday schedule as regional tournaments get underway in Arkansas.
Two area baseball teams will be in Lavaca for the start of the Class 2A West Regional Tournament. Cotter meets Mountainburg at 12:30, and Marshall faces Mansfield at 3.
Two local baseball teams will compete in the first two games of the Class 1A Region 2 Tournament at Marked Tree. Norfork and Crowley’s Ridge Academy get underway at 10, and Viola takes on Armorel at 3.
Valley Springs is the designated as the host school for the Class 3A Region 1 Baseball Tournament at the Equity Bank Sports Complex in Harrison. The Tigers play Paris at 12:30, and Flippin will be paired with Charleston at 5:30.
Izard County’s baseball team will be at South Side-Bee Branch for the opening day of the Class 2A Central Regional Tournament. The Cougars meet Bigelow at 3.
The Melbourne baseball team will take part in the Class 3A Region 2 Tournament at Rivercrest High School in Wilson. The Bearkatz face Harrisburg at 12:30.
Omaha will be the host school for the Class 1A Region 1 Baseball Tournament that will also be held at the Equity Bank Sports Complex. The Eagles take on Ozark Catholic at 12:30, Jasper plays Mulberry at 3, and Lead Hill will be matched up with County Line at 5:30.
In other baseball, Bakersfield travels to Mountain View-Liberty, and Gainesville makes the trip to Seymour.
Three area softball teams will begin action in the Class 2A West Regional Tournament at Lavaca. Cotter and Hector will begin the tournament at 10, Yellville-Summit meets Mansfield at 3, and Marshall faces Magazine at 5:30.
Valley Springs will also host the Class 3A Region 1 Softball Tournament at Harrison. Valley Springs will take on another group of Lady Tigers from Charleston at 12:30, and Flippin plays Booneville at 5:30.
