Gosnell’s baseball team captured its second state championship in program history and first since 1990. The Pirates defeated Central Arkansas Christian 6-2 to win the Class 3A game at Conway.
Trent Middleton was named the most valuable player as he pitched 3 2/3 innings for Gosnell, struck out five batters and gave up one hit, seven walks and one earned run. He also led the Pirates’ offense by going 3-for-3, drawing an intentional walk and driving in a run.
Ryan Wrinkles was credited with the win as he took the mound for the remaining 3 1/3 innings, recorded two strikeouts and gave up three hits, two walks and one earned run. Also for Gosnell, Connor Whitehead was 1-for-3 with a run and three RBIs, Grant Glintborg went 1-for-3 and scored two runs, and Chad Stewart was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.
For the Mustangs, Cade Sargent went 1-for-3, drew a walk, scored a run and drove in another; and Harrison Richmond was 1-for-3 with a run.
The Pirates finish the year at 26-8. CAC falls to 18-6.
