Hackett invokes mercy rule, beats Lincoln for Class 3A state softball championship

Hackett’s softball team invoked the mercy rule in the Class 3A state championship game Saturday at Conway. The Lady Hornets beat up on Lincoln 12-2.

Hackett pitcher Mackenzie Freeman was the MVP as she pitched six innings, struck out seven batters and gave up two hits, two walks and two earned runs. She also went 1-for-2 at the plate, hit a sacrifice fly, was hit by a pitch and drove in another run.

Also for the Lady Hornets, Morgan Coryell went 1-for-3, hit an inside-the-park two-run home run, drew a walk and scored another run; Michaelyn Freeman was 2-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base, three runs and an RBI; Eva Thornburg went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs; Ava Bartmeir went 1-for-3 and scored two runs; Taylor Nichols stole a base, scored two runs and drove in another; and Lani Coryell had a walk, a stolen base and two runs.

For the Lady Wolves, Kristen Rhine was 1-for-3 with two RBIs, and Hannah Remington drew a walk and scored a run.

Hackett finishes its season at 28-3. Lincoln falls to 28-11.
