Valley View shuts out Maumelle for Class 5A state baseball championship

Valley View’s baseball team played in its fourth consecutive state championship game on Sunday. The Blazers captured their second title in four years and fourth overall as they shut out Maumelle 5-0 in the Class 5A game.

Valley View pitcher Lance Davis was named the most valuable player as he went six innings, recorded six strikeouts and gave up two hits and two walks. Noah Ragsdale led the Blazer offense by going 2-for-3 and driving in a run; Drew Gartman was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI; Slade Caldwell drew three walks and scored two runs; and Dax Webb drew a walk, scored a run and drove in another.

For the Hornets, Alan Timmons was 1-for-2 with a walk, and Charles Andrews went 1-for-3.

Valley View ends the year at 31-2. Maumelle falls to 19-12.
