The National Weather Service has started surveying damage in north central Arkansas done by the early Sunday morning thunderstorms to determine how strong the tornados were that hit the area. We know from their first day of work, it was an estimated EF3 tornado that hit the Olvey area of Boone County which claimed one life.
The survey team started around two miles south of Bellfonte where they confirmed the damage there was caused by an EF1 tornado.
As they got to an area about one mile southwest of Olvey, where one person was killed when the tornado hit a house on Starkey Road, their preliminary findings from the damage is the tornado was a low end EF3. The survey team notes they are still looking at things, so the information may change. No track length or width of the tornado have been determined yet.
The National Weather Service expects to continue their survey of storm damage in Boone and Marion counties Monday, and then they will progress towards Baxter County. They have multiple areas to look at across northern Arkansas from the Sunday morning storms.
