A man has been arrested after using a hatchet to chop a hole in a bedroom door, threatening to cut a woman’s tongue out, stab several people and burn the house down during an argument. The man, 56-year-old Mark Christian Peters of rural Mountain View, was being evicted from a house when the incident happened.

According to the probable cause affidavit from the Stone County Sheriff’s Office, Peters had been allowed to stay at the house to help with the bills, but had allegedly taken the home owner’s van and gotten arrested in Little Rock and the van was impounded. The home owner got her van back and had packed Peters’ belongings for him to pick up.

The woman said Peters had broken into the house, so she and two other people staying with her for safety hid in a bedroom. Peters began using a hatchet to break down the door and threatened to stab them. While one of the victims was on the phone with the sheriff’s office, dispatch could hear Peters threaten to burn the house down and say “if she doesn’t give me my stuff back, I’m going to cut her tongue out.”

When deputies arrived, they found a large amount of blood splattered throughout the home including on the doors and walls. The affidavit did not specify if any of the victims at the house sustained injuries.

Peters is facing felony charges of aggravated assault on a family or household member, terroristic threatening and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is also facing a penalty enhancement for being a habitual offender as he has seven previous felony convictions. He is being held in the Stone County Jail on bonds totaling $100,000.
