A Baxter County man was arrested after allegedly jumping out of his mother’s vehicle and resisting arrest. Thirty-three-year-old Scott Willett is currently facing multiple charges including obstructing governmental operations, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, public intoxication and violation of protection order.

According to the probable cause affidavit, on May 22, Baxter County Sheriff’s deputies were advised Willett’s mother had just picked him up and while she was driving, he jumped out of the vehicle on Arkansas Highway 178 near the Eagles Lodge in Midway. When deputies arrived on the scene, they found Willett at Novak Liquor. Dispatch advised deputies Willett’s mother had an active Order Protection against Willett.

While deputies spoke with Willett, he appeared to be under the influence of a substance as he was slurring his speech and not making much sense. Willett was told he was being placed under arrest and began to yell and be uncooperative. Deputies pointed their taser toward Willett while repeating instructions, but he refused to cooperate. After multiple attempts, Willett stepped towards the deputies, causing them to activate their taser on him.

Willett fell to the ground and continued to be combative and uncooperative. He was given verbal commands to roll onto his stomach, but he refused and was tased a second time. Willett complied and was placed into the patrol vehicle. Baxter Health EMS was contacted and medically cleared Willett who was then transported to the Baxter County Detention Center.

Prior to the incident, dispatch was advised of a shirtless male yelling and hitting mailboxes along Cedar Hills Road. Upon arrival, a man showed deputies video footage of a male, later identified as Willett, walking around the area in his underwear carrying what appeared to be a machete. The landlord of the property told deputies Willett did not reside there and wanted him removed. Deputies found Willett and made him aware the landlord wanted him to leave the premises. Deputies observeedWillett not making sense when speaking. His girlfriend, who does resides on the property, said she would give him a ride to his mother’s and they left without incident.

Willett’s mother told deputies her son was acting “out of his mind” and believed him to be high on drugs when she had come to retrieve her vehicle Willett had borrowed. She stated she wanted to file a report because her son, while allegedly on drugs, had disassembled many parts of her car, where he took off parts of the body and stuck them inside the vehicle. Willett’s mother stated she did not believe the vehicle would run due to the damage caused by her son.

Willett was arrested and booked into Baxter County Detention Center on charges of obstructing governmental operations, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, public intoxication and violation of a protection order. He was released on a $1,820 bond.
