A Twin Lakes Area native will be among more than 250 in a competition for seriously wounded, ill and injured service members and veterans this month. Retired Naval Aircrewman Operator Second Class Levi Moore of Midway will take part in the Department of Defense’s Warrior Games Challenge June 21-30 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla.

According to Naval Installations Command, Moore will face off against athletes representing the U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Space Force and U.S. Special Operations Command. During the 10-day period, Moore will compete in cycling, shooting, swimming, wheelchair basketball and wheelchair rugby.

Moore joined the Navy in 2013. In this role, he crunched numbers for hours to track submarines. Following a motorcycle accident, he connected with Navy Wounded Warrior and Navy adaptive sports. Moore is a returning athlete for Team Navy, as he earned several medals in last year’s challenge.

This year is the 14th anniversary for the Warrior Games Challenge. It’s organized by the Defense Department to highlight the physical skills and mental toughness of seriously wounded, ill and injured active-duty and veteran service members.
