The Mountain Home City Council moved quickly through a busy agenda Thursday night with all members except Wayne Almond present.

The council took the next step in the process for the new police department downtown. After agreeing to purchase the building that has housed several banks, and most recently the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, to serve as the new police station earlier this year, the council voted to hire the construction manager for the remodel. Gregory Company of Mountain Home was hired to handle the job.

The council voted to create a line item to purchase property at 1171 S. Main Street. The property was willed to the city, but the property owner still owed $27,350 on the house.

The Mountain Home City Council adopted an updated personnel policy handbook. The main updates concerned sick leave and vacation days.

The council approved the final plat for Sycamore Flats and approved a rezoning of property just off U.S. Highway 62/412 Business Southwest from Residential R1 to Commercial C2.

Mayor Hillrey Adams announced a fundraiser will be held July 12 for the victims of the May 26 tornados. The two-part fundraiser will include lunch being sold and a dinner and auction that evening at the Baxter County Fairgrounds. More details will be released next week.

The council’s next meeting will not be until July 18 since the next regularly scheduled meeting falls on July 4.
