The Mountain Home School Board is preparing to fill its vacancy this week following the resignation of former board member Bob Chester. The board will meet in its regular session Thursday evening, but the meeting will not be a normal one as candidates for the open spot will be interviewed, and the board is expected to name Chester’s successor later that evening.

The interviews will take up the beginning of the meeting. Mountain Home Superintendent Allyson Dewey says seven candidates will be interviewed with each allotted nearly 30 minutes to answer questions.

The order of the candidates being interviewed will be based on when the applications were received. Cheyla Leaming will be first and followed by Marsha Partney, Tommy Knight, Tony Chamberlain, Hap Meyers, Bud Zorman and Neal Pendergrass.

The community had been invited to submit questions for the candidates. During the interview process, questions will be asked by the board members present, Dewey says it will be an open session for the public to view.

Chester announced his resignation from the school board on June 25. The district has 30 to fill his vacant seat from the time it came open.

The meeting will begin at 5 Thursday evening. For those unable to attend, it will be streamed live on YouTube.
