Seven local rural service programs received grants from the Arkansas Economic Development Commission’s (AEDC) Division of Rural Services, which invests in small towns across the state. Over $80,000 in funds were awarded to communities in the Twin Lakes Area.
The funding will be used to fund projects such as fire trucks, fire protection equipment, community centers, storm sirens, community parks, walking trails, and baseball fields.
Local communities receiving grants include:
– City of Lakeview receiving $1,946;
– City of Yellville receiving $6,098;
– Cotter-Gassville Rural Fire Protection District receiving $14,433;
– Norfork Fire Department receiving $14,406;
– Oakland Promiseland Fire Protection District receiving $15,000;
– Stone County receiving $15,000; and
– Leslie Volunteer Fire Department receiving $13,724.
Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders says, “These grants go a long way toward making sure that every corner of Arkansas – not just a few big cities – is taken care of.”
Applicants were from incorporated towns of less than 3,000 in population and unincorporated rural areas and were eligible for up to $15,000 in matching funds under the program. AEDC awarded $344,728.69 in grants to 33 Arkansas cities and counties. The grants are part of the Division of Rural Services’ second cycle of Fiscal Year 2024 grants. AEDC previously awarded $806,125 in grants to 29 Arkansas cities and counties during the 2024 Rural Development Conference in May.
