Officials with the National Park Services have announced two closures will begin Monday to accommodate projects on the Buffalo National River.
The Steel Creek Area will be closed while staff complete a full replacement of the area’s water line. This closure includes the Steel Creek Road, Steel Creek Campground and the Steel Creek river access. Trails leading to the Steel Creek area will remain open, including the Buffalo River Trail. The work is projected to last through the month of August.
Renovations to the Lower Tyler Bend River Access are scheduled to begin Monday. The lower access point, serving as the primary river access for the Tyler Bend Area, will be closed for the duration of the project. Renovations include removing existing damaged components, construction of a one-way loop connecting the entrance road to the parking area and removal and relocation of the nearby restroom facility and related wastewater components. The two-phase construction will begin with a deconstruction phase, followed by a construction phase projected to start in November.
Current conditions of the area can be found at https://www.nps.gov/buff/planyourvisit/conditions.htm.
