Blytheville High School placed on brief lockdown Tuesday

On Tuesday, Blytheville High School (BHS) was placed on a lockdown following an incident involving a student and their family members.According to a news report, a parent entered the BHS Welcome Center Lobby with their adult-aged daughter and student-aged son, concerned that one of them was carrying a weapon onto the campus premises.

“The Welcome Center personnel immediately followed protocol by contacting school security, who requested assistance from the Blytheville Police Department,” officials said in a release.

During the incident, the parent discovered a weapon was in the possession of their adult daughter, which was quickly collected by school security. Blytheville police arrived at the scene, “ensuring all parties involved were safely removed from the building.”

“The safety and security of our students and staff are of the utmost importance, and we are grateful for the quick response from our school security team and local law enforcement,” the statement said.

Officials said the situation was resolved “without further incident” and the lockdown was lifted.
