Friday morning, Mountain Home Mayor Hillrey Adams told KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot News the estimated repair time for the light at U.S. Highway 62 and Arkansas Highway 5 North is to be approximately three to four weeks.

The intersection will continue to operate as a four-way stop after the utility control box to the traffic signal was damaged in an accident on August 23. According to the incident report the alleged driver, 72-year-old John Surber Jr. of rural Summit, crashed into the box and is facing multiple charges in connection with the accident.
THE INCIDENT

According to the incident report from the Mountain Home Police Department, Surber was traveling in the inside lane of Highway 5 just before 11 when a patrolman turned his blue lights on to initiate a traffic stop. Surber increased speed while failing to stay in his lane. He then traveled to the outside lane, where he nearly struck a light pole. Surber went through the intersection and traveled over the curb, striking the utility box and a fire hydrant before coming to rest.

Surber was not injured in the accident, but he reportedly registered a blood alcohol content of .13. Damage to his vehicle was estimated at $10,000.

Surber was booked into the Baxter County Detention Center and released nearly 2 1/2 hours later on a bond of $10,000. He is facing charges of second-degree criminal mischief, fleeing, driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.
