In a short session Thursday night, the Mountain Home City Council approved two ordinances on their third readings. An ordinance was approved to change who can sell or discharge fireworks within the city limits. The new change will allow those to obtain a permit only at the fire department instead of at city hall and the fire department. In addition, the city’s permitting process for both fireworks sales and public displays now includes a requirement for written permission from the property’s owner.

The council also approved an ordinance repealing some outdated and antiquated sections of code and city ordinances.

In other business, the council approved a resolution to waive competitive bidding for the parks department to enter into a contract with Specialized Outdoor Services to renovate Cooper Park’s Lester White Field, not to exceed $71,000. Daniel Baxley told the council the ASU-Mountain Home baseball team is giving $10,000 to assist with the project

The council also approved a resolution to purchase a used Caterpillar Dozen from Riggs Cat of Springdale for a sum not exceeding $90,500. The dozer, which will meet the street department’s needs, is immediately available, and purchasing a similar dozer through public bidding is impractical.

On October 3rd, a public hearing will be held before the council’s regular meeting to request a utility easement to be abandoned between lots 86 and 87 in Big Creek for residential construction. The meeting will be held at 4:55 in the Council Chambers of the Municipal Building.
