The Arkansas Department of Transportation has announced the partial closure of an area bridge. The Big Creek bridge on Arkansas Highway 223, south of Viola, will be down to one lane following a routine bridge inspection.

A temporary traffic signal has been installed, directing traffic to the bridge’s center lane. One direction of traffic will be able to pass at a time, and delays should be expected. Crews are examining the best course of action, and the lane closure will continue until the repairs are complete.

According to ArDOT, construction is underway for a new bridge over Big Creek. The project was let to contract in May, and the current estimated completion is mid-2026. The existing bridge on Highway 223 remains in use until its replacement is ready.
