
The Yellville-Summit High School football team began its conference slate on a rough note. The Panthers went to Quitman on Friday and suffered a 40-14 defeat. Yellville-Summit falls to 2-2 on the season and 0-1 in the 3A-2, and they’ll return to Panther Field next week to meet Mayflower.
Two other area football teams squared off in their 3A-2 opener. Salem ended up breezing past Melbourne 36-3. The Greyhounds improve to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the league, and they’ll back at home for their next game against Episcopal Collegiate. The Bearkatz drop to 3-1 and 0-1, and they’ll go to Quitman next week.
It was a tough homecoming night for Izard County. The Cougars lost to East Poinsett County by a final of 56-6. Izard County is now 0-4 on the year and 0-1 in the 2A-2, and they’ll head to Cherry Valley next week to take on Cross County.
Mountain View ended up losing its conference opener on the road. The Yellowjackets were shut out by Mayflower 42-0. Mountain View falls to 2-2 on the season and 0-1 in the 3A-2, and they’ll return to the home field for the first time in over a month when they face Atkins.
Harrison suffered another defeat in its 5A-West opener. The Goblins fell at home to Alma 26-14. Harrison drops to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in conference action, and they’ll make the trip to Farmington next week.
On the eight-man level, Marshall concluded its five-game home stand with a low-scoring game. The Bobcats were edged out by South Side-Bee Branch 8-6. Marshall’s record is now 2-3, and they’ll have their first road test of the season next week when they go to Pleasant Plains to play Midland.
