The American Red Cross sent over 450 volunteers to help those affected by Hurricane Helene. 18 local volunteers from northeast Arkansas and southeast Missouri are helping with disaster relief.

In a statement by Red Cross Executive Director Micheal Sullivan, volunteers jumped into the thick of the action on Thursday, Sept. 26, right after the hurricane made landfall.

“We had shelter operations open last night, around 143 opened,” Sullivan said. “Seeing some 9,000 individuals seek shelter, and Red Cross volunteers were there to make sure they had that immediate assistance.”
