The Jonesboro football program left Bomber Stadium deflated on Monday evening after suffering two losses to the Bombers.
The evening started with the 7th Grade Bombers defeating the Annie Camp Whirlwinds 20-0.
The Bombers started the first defense and forced a turnover on downs. The Bomber offense took over, going on a time consuming drive that saw the Bombers fall behind the sticks but rally to score early the 2nd Qtr when Asa Smeltzer hit Hudson Spears with strike on a play action pass for the score. Austin Still added the two point conversion on another pass from Smeltzer. The Bombers lead 8-0. The remainder off the half was dominated by a Bomber defense lead by Spears, Still, Uriah Sabo, and Braxton Hogard. The Bombers took over with less than 3 minutes and could not cover.
The Bombers got the ball but had to punt and Smeltzer came up with a 4th down interception stopping the Whirlwinds drive.
In the 4th Qtr, Hudson Spears swept right end for a 47 yard Touchdown the extra point fail when the pass to Still fell to the ground.
The Bombers sealed the Game when Smeltzer again read a power read play and kept the ball for a 45 yard scamper right down the middle of the field as he high stepped into the end zone.
The Bombers finished the night with the junior varsity team taking the field and defeating the Jonesboro Hurricanes 49-42.
The Bombers play again on the road at Batesville Southside next Monday 10/7 at 5:30.
