Representatives of Mountain Home attended last week’s annual Arkansas Recreation and Parks Association Conference and Trade Show, and three awards were given to local individuals and entities. Mountain Home Parks and Recreation Program Coordinator Andrew McNair was recognized as the Outstanding Professional of the Year, the Baxter Summer Concert Series was named the Festival of the Year for Five to 10 Years, and Mountain Home Lockeroom American Legion Baseball Head Coach Lester White was selected the Champion of the Year.
McNair’s recognition came from his efforts to start new outdoor programs in the Parks and Recreation Department. Mountain Home Mayor Hillrey Adams, who attended the conference, says it’s a testament to the efforts of McNair and the entire department to get local youth more active.
Listen:
Adams was thankful to the Baxter Healthcare Corporation for sponsoring the Summer Concert Series, which just wrapped up its fifth season, and to Rickey Crawford for organizing the shows and booking talent. The Mountain Home mayor says the series has seen significant growth since its beginning.
Listen:
White has led the Lockeroom for over four decades and more than 1,800 games, and Adams says he has always done a good job of taking care of the field at Cooper Park, long before it became known as Lester White Field.

The Arkansas Recreation and Parks Association Conference and Trade Show were held Wednesday through Friday at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Jonesboro Red Wolf Convention Center on the campus of Arkansas State University.
