Charges filed against man who injured Izard County Chief Deputy during pursuit, more details released

Multiple charges have been filed against the Melbourne man involved the pursuit that injured the Izard County Sheriff’s Office’s Chief Deputy Monday afternoon. Being held in the Independence County Jail in Batesville on a total of eight charges, four of them felonies, is 28-year-old Zachoria Henry of Melbourne.

The Chief Deputy, Steve Davidson, suffered multiple broken bones including a broken leg and foot when Henry’s vehicle crashed into his patrol vehicle during the pursuit and is still hospitalized at White River Medical Center in Batesville after undergoing surgery.

The probable cause affidavit from the Arkansas State Police has been released, and new information in it indicates Henry hit two patrol cars during the hour long two-county pursuit. He also struck a sheriff’s patrol vehicle driven by deputy Even Jones who was not injured.

Two other Izard County patrol vehicles were also damaged during the pursuit.

Empty beer cans were located in Henry’s truck and he admitted to law enforcement to consuming alcohol and ingesting illegal narcotics leading up to the pursuit.

Henry is facing felony charges of first degree battery on a law enforcement officer, fleeing in a vehicle, aggravated assault and first degree criminal mischief along with misdemeanor charges of driving while intoxicated – drugs, driving while driver’s license is suspended for DWI, reckless driving and failure to register a motor vehicle. He is being held without bond at this time.
