MHCA volleyball team wins HCAA state championship

The Mountain Home Christian Academy varsity volleyball team can claim the title of state champions. The Lady Eagles took home the trophy from the Heartland Christian Athletic Association Class 2A State Tournament Friday in Tulsa, Okla.

Mountain Home Christian began pool play by topping Trinity Christian School in straight sets with scores of 25-12 and 25-12. They came up short in their second match as West Side Christian Academy won in three sets with scores of 25-22, 17-25 and 15-8. The Lady Eagles wrapped up pool play with a three-set win over New Life Christian Academy with scores of 24-26, 25-16 and 15-4.

Mountain Home Christian started bracket play by beating Cornerstone Christian Academy in straight sets with scores of 25-18 and 25-16. In the semifinals, the Lady Eagles defeated Eagle Point Christian Academy in straight sets with scores of 25-17 and 25-10. Mountain Home Christian got revenge on West Side Christian in the title match by scores of 9-25, 27-25 and 15-11.

Cheyanne Dewey led the Lady Eagles on the day with 25 kills, 22 blocks and nine aces; Emma Ehlinger had 21 kills and five aces; Khloe Cotter recorded 20 kills, 32 assists, 25 digs and nine aces; Sydelle Sebree added 18 kills, 23 digs and four aces; Kayden Wright finished with 17 kills, 37 assists and 16 aces; Marie Claire Robinson ended up with 12 kills, 11 blocks and five aces; Karlee Decker had 21 digs; and Ashley Joiner finished with 15 digs.
