The MHHS Athletic Hall of Honor Class of 2024 will include someone who has contributed his time and resources to Bomber athletics and youth sports for 46 years. Bob Recktenwald will receive his induction Saturday afternoon.
Recktenwald says it was a surprise when he learned about his upcoming honor.
Listen:
Recktenwald’s family moved to Mountain Home in 1973, and he graduated as a Bomber five years later. His contributions began during his high school days when he began helping Bomber Youth Football with Rocky Fratesi and Norman Martin.
One of the traditions started by Recktenwald was to feed the football team. A weekly meal would be prepared and served to the Bombers Thursday evenings at the field house.
Recktenwald began working in the football press box in 1995 for all games from seventh grade through varsity. Since 2008, he has broadcasted Mountain Home football games for all grades for a local television station.
In addition, Recktenwald helped form the Mountain Home Youth Football organization in 1995. He also served as its president for 17 seasons.
Recktenwald’s contributions go beyond the gridiron. He’s also a past nine-year president of Twin Lakes Youth Softball. In 2017, he became the public address announcer for the Mountain Home High School softball team.
In addition, Recktenwald helped provide facilities for the Bomber bowling teams when the Arkansas Activities Association sanctioned the sport in 2006. He would also serve the program as a volunteer coach.
Wrestling is also one of Recktenwald’s passions, and he was instrumental in developing the high school program after the sport was sanctioned in 2008.
Listen:
Recktenwald has also been a supporter of Mountain Home’s high school and junior high bands. In the 2000s, he purchased the Majorette risers for the high school and the parade banner for the junior high.
Recktenwald’s football involvement also continues with contributions to the Mountain Home Gridiron Club. He has helped raise funds for the past five seasons through its steak dinner and auction.
Recktenwald says it has been an honor to have served and continue to serve the Bomber and youth sports programs.
Listen:
Recktenwald will be enshrined during the MHHS Athletic Hall of Honor Banquet on Saturday. The meet and greet starts at noon, and the meal will be served at 1.
