It’s been just over three weeks since a Mountain Home man was killed in a hit-and-run accident in the city, and while the investigation continues, it may be quite a while before the case wraps up, according to Mountain Home Police Chief Eddie Griffin.

The accident on the evening of Oct. 19 killed 27-year-old William Hermann. The driver of the car, 62-year-old Sarah Alsup of Mountain Home, was not injured.

Griffin tells KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot News he understands there is a lot of concern in the community, and a lot has been posted on social media about the case, but unfortunately, cases of this type can take a lot of time to complete the investigation.

Griffin says after that, they get with 14th Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney David Ethredge.

It is up to the prosecuting attorney to determine what charges, if any, will be filed in the case.

The Mountain Home Police Chief says there is no way to put a time frame on when the investigation will be completed.

According to the crash report from the Mountain Home Police Department, Alsup was traveling on U.S. Highway 62B East. Herrmann was attempting to cross the highway when he was struck by the front passenger’s side of Alsup’s vehicle and knocked into the parking area of City Nails on the east side of the lot. Herrmann was pronounced dead at the scene.

Alsup’s vehicle reportedly continued before turning into the parking area of White Oak Station. The vehicle later left the parking lot, continued on the highway and pulled into the parking lot at a Chinese restaurant. Alsup’s vehicle returned to Highway 62B in the opposite direction, traveled past the accident scene and went to her residence.

Officers made contact with Alsup several hours later. She reportedly stated she believed a deer “darted” out in front of her vehicle.
