A Mountain Home man is in the Baxter County Detention Center after being arrested for fighting with officers during a traffic stop. Forty-three-year-old Joseph David Young is facing seven charges for the incident, two of the felonies.
According to the probable cause affidavit from the Mountain Home Police Department, the incident happened Nov. 22 when the vehicle Young was a passenger in was pulled over for not having a license plate. While the officer was talking to the driver, she noticed the passenger was acting nervous, keeping his eyes down and avoiding eye contact. She called for backup and asked the passenger, later identified as Young, if he had a driver’s license and he said no and gave the name of Barry Liner. She asked if he was on probation or parole and he said not anymore. When the officer ran the name and date of birth, nothing came back. Another officer had arrived and attempted to get the Young out of the car when he tried to flee on foot.
The first officer got back to the car to assist and all three went to the ground and an unknown pedestrian joined in to help the officers. Young stood up kicked the female officer three times in the groin before she was able to deploy her Taser. Young fell to his knees but stood back up. The officer Tasered Young a second time with no affect. As the other officer was able to wrestle Young to the ground again, the first officer Tasered him a third time. The female officer had the pedestrian grab her radio which had been knocked off in the fracas and she called for more help.
Two more officers arrived and Young was Tased a fourth time before he was finally taken into custody.
During a search of Young, officers found a baggie with a crystal like substance suspected to be methamphetamine, pills, a green leafy substance suspected to be marijuana and a glass pipe with burnt residue.
Young is facing felony counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and possession of methamphetamine with the purpose to deliver along with misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest, fleeing on foot, obstructing governmental operations and disorderly conduct. He also faces a penalty enhancement for being a habitual offender. His bail is set at $15,000 and he is also being held on a warrant out of Marion County District Court.
Young has previous convictions in Baxter County for breaking or entering, theft of property, possession of a controlled substance, criminal mischief and other charges.
He has been in convicted in Fulton County for breaking or entering and theft of property.
In Clay County, Young was convicted of commercial burglary and theft of property.
