A Mountain Home man has been arrested after fleeing from a deputy because he didn’t want to have his vehicle towed. The incident Friday night led to six charges being filed against 26-year-old Trey Riley Chism.

According to the incident report from the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy on patrol saw Chism’s vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign while turning onto Arkansas State Highway 5 from Jordan Road. The deputy caught up to the vehicle near Galatia Cemetery and Chism turned onto Havner Road.

The deputy activated his blue lights at this point. Chism was traveling at 30 miles-per-hour but when the deputy activated his siren, Chism accelerated to 65 miles-per-hour in a 35-miles-per-hour zone.

After about one mile of the pursuit, Chism pulled into the driveway of a residence and was taken into custody. When the deputy asked why he fled, Chism said he didn’t want to have his vehicle towed.

During a search of the vehicle, deputies found a pink grinder commonly used to grind up marijuana. There was a green leafy substance inside the grinder.

Chism is facing a felony charge of fleeing along with misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, careless driving, driving while license suspended for DWI, failure to stop at a stop sign and not wearing a seat belt. He is free after posting $5,000 bond.
